7 Simple Ways to Care For Your Teeth

Everyone loves to have a great smile beaming with healthy set of teeth. However, to maintain healthy teeth and gums, there are steps you need to take to achieve your desired goal. Here are seven simple ways to care for your teeth.

1. Have a Plan

Having healthy teeth starts with building good oral habits. This involves getting the right oral care products and taking the right steps daily to take care of your teeth. Also remember to use a toothpaste that has fluoride.

2. Brush Your Teeth Twice a Day

Do not go to bed without brushing your teeth. Brushing before bed helps to get rid of germs and plaque that accumulate in your teeth throughout the day. This is one good step towards having healthy teeth.

3. Drink Lots of Water

Drinking water after every meal can help to wash out residue and sugar from the food you eat that gets stuck to your teeth. Water will also help to dilute the acid level in your mouth, thus helping to prevent tooth decay. Ensure that you make it a habit to drink lots of water every single day.

4. Do Not Forget to Brush Your Tongue

When you do not brush your tongue, you are leaving a large area in your mouth open to where bacteria can gather in colonies. Plaque can also build up on your tongue when you ignore brushing your tongue. This can lead to bad mouth odor.

5. Brush Properly

How you brush your teeth is a very important part of your oral health. Brushing the wrong way is as good as not brushing at all. When brushing, always take your time, while moving the toothbrush in gentle, circular motions. Spend at least two to three minutes brushing your teeth for good results.

6. Replace Your Toothbrush Regularly

If your toothbrush starts to look worn out, replace it quickly. An old or worn out toothbrush does not clean your teeth effectively. It is advisable to change your toothbrush every three months.

7. Visit Your Dentist Twice a Year.

It is true that even the most dutiful ones who brush and floss regularly still visit the dentist. It is very important that you visit your dentist for cleaning and checkup at least twice a year. In fact, it is usually recommended that you get a dental check up and professional cleaning (Scaling and Polishing) of your teeth done every six months. Not only can a dentist remove calculus and look for cavities, he/she can spot potential problems in your mouth and offer proper treatment solutions.

  1. I love that you explained how if you don’t brush your tongue, a lot of space in your mouth is left accessible for colonies of germs to form. It’s good to understand that when you neglect to brush your tongue, plaque can also accumulate there, which can cause foul breath. I wish my kids will understand this because I want them to have the optimum dental health possible. I may have to find a family dentist that will help me on that mission.
